How does IV sedation work?
IV means intravenous. That means we administer the anti-anxiety medication we use for IV sedation by inserting a very fine needle into the back of your hand or arm to create the IV. The IV medication we administer is not a painkiller, it is a medication that treats anxiety and makes you completely relaxed.
How Sedation Dentistry Works
We will still need to numb you before we being work. Don’t worry if you don’t like getting numb or if you are afraid of needles, we can wait until your sedation medication begins to kick in before we numb your mouth. You won’t even know it’s happening. Before you realize it, you will be completely numb.
Once we know you can’t feel a thing and that you are completely relaxed, we can begin your procedures. We constantly monitor you while we administer sedation so that we know you stay comfortable and numb for your whole treatment time. Therefore, there is no need for you to worry about waking up or feeling anything during treatment.

Once our dentists are finished with your procedures, we will stop the IV and allow you some time to recover from your sedation treatment. You will be groggy afterward, so it is best not to make any big decisions or do anything requiring coordination the rest of the day. Just give yourself the time you need to rest and recover.
