Will I know what's happening when I have IV sedation?
At Drs. Smith and Domingue’s office, we offer IV sedation to our patients for their comfort, peace of mind, and well-being. We know that at least 25% of the population in America has a dental phobia. Offering sedation dentistry allows our patients to seek out and receive treatment without the concerns that usually go with dental fears.
Having IV sedation means you will be completely unconscious. You will have absolutely no awareness of your procedures or the treatment we do. While you are under IV sedation, one of our team members will remain by your side the entire time, making sure you are both comfortable and safe.
While IV sedation comes with certain inherent risks, for many of our patients, the benefits far outweigh the risks. In order to make sure you are a good candidate for IV sedation, we will perform an extensive medical history. That way, we know you are healthy enough for IV sedation.
You will experience grogginess following your treatment. Due to the nature f IV sedation, you need to have someone available to drive you home and stay with you the rest of the day. When you wake up the next day, you should feel completely normal again.
