What do you use lasers for in dentistry?
Laser dentistry is a versatile way to treat some of the most common dental problems. From decay to whitening, laser dentistry can make your treatment more comfortable and also preserves more of your tooth structure when we do treatment.
Because laser dentistry does not rely on friction like traditional dentistry utilizing a handpiece, you may not need anesthetic for your treatment. Of course, we want you to be completely comfortable so if you need any anesthetic, we will definitely give it to you.
We commonly use lasers to treat tooth decay. Because we set the laser to look for a certain type of density in your tooth, it automatically finds decay and removes only the parts of your tooth necessary, leaving the healthy tooth structure behind.
We also use lasers to whiten your teeth. Laser whitening is quick and effective. You can leave our office on the same day with a brand new smile.
When a patient comes to see us and they have gum disease, we may offer laser treatment to help rid you of the active infection in your gums, also called periodontal disease. Lasers help to gently sterilize the tissue surrounding your teeth, help to prevent bleeding, and encourage healing.
