  • “ I have had the best experience with Dr. Domingue and his staff! He's kind, professional, and is extremely involved with every aspect of the patient care. His staff is one of the friendliest I have ever met. They don't only work in your mouth, they form real professional relationships. Dr. Domingue recently told me he was going to work with my time because, "you are way busier than I am". What a humble statement! I was so impressed when he recently shared that he was going on a mission trip to serve in Mexico. I think he is a gift to the lafayette community, and everyone needs to know.”

Can I Skip My Dental X-Rays?

Dental X-Rays Lafayette LAAt Drs. Smith & Domingue’s office, we treat our patients the way we would want others to treat our own families if the situation were reversed. We believe in preventive care that supports good oral health, and preventing dental emergencies whenever possible. In fact, we implement customized care routines to help patients stay on track based on their own individual needs.

Part of the preventive treatment plan is to provide regular professional dental cleanings, periodic exams, and dental x-rays. Typically, we take dental x-rays on a yearly basis unless an emergency or other situation arises that would cause us to suspect a problem.

When people want to skip their dental x-rays, it is usually because of a few different reasons.

Time – While it does take a few extra minutes to get the necessary x-rays taken, it is time well spent because it can save you hours in the dental chair later due to an unexpected emergency. It only happens once per year, so it really is a great investment in time for your oral health.

Money – If you do not have dental insurance or if your insurance plan does not cover dental x-rays, you might incur an out-of-pocket expense. However, having dental x-rays is a good way to save you money in the future when a once small cavity ends up turning your tooth into a war zone that requires a root canal and heroics to save it. Or even worse, you might end up losing a tooth if we miss a serious condition by avoiding x-rays.

Radiation – Some patients are fearful of unnecessary radiation. In many cases, you receive more radiation by spending time outdoors in a sunny climate. Digital dental x-rays are among the lowest in radiation in the medical industry and it is important to remember that we only take them periodically. Switching to digital was important to us so that we could give you peace of mind when it comes to your dental care.
